LISTENING TECHNIQUES TO BECOME
AN EFFECTIVE LISTENER:
1. PAY ATTENTION: Maintain full attention to
the speaker, minimize distraction, remove
electronic devices, and maintain eye contact to
show engagement.
2. BE PRESENT: Focus on the speaker's word
and stay in the moment, avoiding thoughts of
your response.

3.AVOID INTERRUPTING. Allow the speaker to finish
before responding, as interruptions can be disrespectful and
disrupt the conversation's flow.

4. USE NONVERVAL CUES: Nodding, smiling, and

maintaining an open posture indicate active listening
and encourage the speaker.

5. ASK CLARIFYING QUESTION: If something is unclear,

ask an open-ended question to seek clarification without
making assumptions.

NOTE-TAKING AS AN
AID TO LISTENING
GROUP 3
Note-taking can be an effective way to aid
in active listening, especially when there is
a lot of information to remember or when
the conversation is particularly complex or
nuanced. By taking notes during a
conversation, listeners can capture key
points, questions, or ideas as they arise,
allowing them to fully engage with the
speaker and ask follow-up questions.
In addition to helping with active listening,
note-taking can also aid in understanding and
processing information, as writing things down
can help to solidify them in listener’s mind.
Further, taking notes can help to keep the
listener organized and on track during a
conversation, as they can use their notes as a
reminder of points to revisit or to confirm
whether or not they’ve understood something
correctly.
