The Preamble to the 1987 Constitution

Preamble Meaning. It encourages love and passion for our country, the
Philippines. It shows significant messages about our deep roles and
responsibilities to every Filipino and the society. As a free nation, we must
act and spend our liberty with responsibility focusing on love of country,
peace and unity.
The preamble of the Constitution provides that we should establish a
Government which shall "conserve and develop our patrimony." Our
"patrimony" includes our public forests, mangroves, wildlife, and flora and
fauna which should be conserved, protected and renewed.
Philosophy Values
Understanding the philosophy of human values is
necessary in understanding Filipino values such as:

Family Closeness and Solidarity

Politeness

Hospitality

Gratitude
Philosophy Values
Values are both subjective and objective.

They involve a subject or person who values (e.g.,ayoung girl) and an object or value to be
realized (e.g., pagkamahinhin).

Justice is objective because it is avalue that should be realized by all.

There is a difference between value and disvalue such as pleasureand pain, life and death,
poverty and affluence, heroism and cowardice, truth and falsehood, right andwrong, holiness
and sinfulness.

The difference is not in the mind or simply a matter of personal taste orpreference. It is real
and evident
.
Filipino
Values
Filipino Values
Filipino values are cultural beliefs and assumptions
about what is socially desirable, and therefore, there
are expectations on how one must behave in certain
situations. Filipino values are inherently positive,
however, some values like utang na loob and
pakikisama are often abused. Though the Filipino
values system is shared by different ethnic groups, the
values are ranked and expressed differently.

Filipino values are taught in school, but they are quickly evolving because of the influence of
social media and the changing priorities of Filipinos.

Filipino values influence how we relate with people at home, at church, and in the workplace.
Filipinos possess admirable values that, when reinforced, will create a great work culture. By
understanding their values, you can bring out the best in Filipinos.
What is Filipino Values
Filipino values refer to the shared cultural beliefs of what is socially desirable in
the way Filipinos deal with each other. These values were cultivated by our
experiences as a nation through centuries. This means you can find the origin of
our values hundreds of years before the coming of the Spaniards.

Spain colonized us for 400 years. America tried to change the way we look
at ourselves for 50 years. We cannot deny that they reshaped some of our
values. But our love for the bayan, our people, is based on our being
communal.
Filipino values serve as Filipinos’ lenses on how they appreciate the issues
around them. To appreciate Filipino culture, begin with their values.
Like all other humans, Filipinos are not conscious of our values because we
have internalized them in the process of growing up.
The ten most depicted traits were the following:

Pakikisama
Utang na loob

Hospitality

History
We are the product of our colonial history, which is
regarded by many as the culprit behind our lack of
nationalism and our colonial mentality. Colonialism
developed a mind-set in the Filipino which encouraged us to
think of the colonial power as superior and more powerful.

Political Environment
The Philippine political
environment is characterized by
a centralization of power.
Political power and authority is
concentrated in the hands of the
elite and the participation of
most Filipinos often is limited to
voting in elections.
It means technology that is intended to reach a
mass audience. It is the primary means of
communication used to reach the vast majority

of the general public.
Media
The most common flatforms for media are
newspapers, magazines, radio, television, and
the latest is the internet.

The tendency of media to produce escapist

movies, soap operas, comics, etc., feed the
Filipino's passivity. Rather than confront our
poverty and oppression, we fantasize instead.
The propensity to use flashy sets, designer
clothes, superstars, and other bongga features
Leadership and Rolemodel
Filipinos look up to their leaders as role models. Political
leaders are the main models, but all other leaders serve as
role models as well. Thus, when our leaders violate the law
or show themselves to be self-serving and driven by
personal interest--when there is lack of public
accountability--there is a negative impact on the Filipino.

Personal Development
Plan
Personal Development
plan
● Personal Development planning is an important part of
self-development at all stages of your career. A personal
development plan, or PDP, helps you grow and improve
skills necessary to your professional and personal
success.
● Here we examine why a personal development plan is
important and how to use one to advance your career.
What is a personal development plan?

● A personal development plan reflects your strengths, weaknesses and goals. The aim is to
identify skills for personal improvement then set clear goals for each. Ideally, they should
be time bound, short term goals that you can measure.

● As part of your plan, determine how you’ll develop your skills, such as through
workshops, internal training, upskilling and feedback sessions.

● A PDP also sets review timeframes. After all, to drive success you must measure progress
against your action plan regularly. Then, once a goal has been reached, you can identify
your next area of personal development.
● You can create a personal development plan in both a personal and career context. Both
modes benefit your life inside and outside of work. But a personal development
originating in the workplace directly impacts your career progression.
