PATIENT REPORTED OUTCOME

MEASURES FOR CATARACT

SURGERY: A STUDY IN CENTRAL
REGION OF GHANA

BY: BISMARK OSEI BOATENG

(AH/OPT/17/0006)
BACKGROUND
 Over 90 million people suffering from cataract , with cataract
surgery been the only available treatment(W.H.O., 2022)

 Traditionally, clinical outcome measures are the most

important means in assessing the success of the cataract
surgery(Lundstom M et al., 2009)

2
BACKGROUND
 There are a number of PROMs that have been established
because there is interest in the patients' perspective of result
satisfaction((Lamoureux, 2017)

 The Catquest-9SF questionnaire was originally created in

Sweden and was translated and validated in English at
Australia (Lundstrom & Pesudovs, 2009)

3
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
 CHALLENGE
Studies done in Ghana concerning cataract did not include PROMs

 PROPOSED SOLUTION

4
AIM RESEARCH QUESTIONS
To evaluate the use of the  Reliability
Catquest-9SF  Responsiveness
questionnaire as a PROM  Influence
for cataract surgery in
 Predictive model
Ghanaian population and
to assess its validity and
reliability in measuring the
impact of cataract surgery
on visual function and
quality of life.
