The document summarizes a study on burst abdomen that aimed to identify causes and management approaches. The study found that burst abdomen has an incidence rate of 0.4-3.5% after abdominal surgery. It evaluated conservative and operative management methods and their effects on complications and outcomes. The conclusion was that delayed suturing may provide a compromise approach with a lower frequency of complications than other options.

• Burst abdomen is defined as post-operative separation of abdominal musculo-
aponeurotic layers, which is recognised within days after surgery and requires some form of intervention. • INCIDENCE - 0.4-3.5% • The study aims to find etiological factors of burst abdomen in hospitalised patients, evaluate current management methods and to compare conservative and operative approach with respect to complication and outcomes. CONCLUSION
Delayed suturing, which had a lower frequency of complications in this
study, may serve as a “middle path” between the two options.
