HARMONIC SEQUENCE

OBJECTIVES:
1. Illustrate harmonic sequence;
2. Compute the nth term of a harmonic sequence
3. Demonstrate appreciation of generating and
recognizing patterns as important skills needed to
understand the concepts of harmonic sequence.
Tell whether the following sequence
arithmetic, geometric or neither.
1.1,2,3,4,5,..
2.1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5,…
3.2, 4,8,16,32,..
4.1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16,…
1.What have you observed in sequence
1 and 2?
2.How does sequence 1 relate to
sequence 2?
“The reciprocal terms of an
arithmetic sequence forms a
harmonic sequence.
Let the students answer.
Fill in the missing term/s.
1. 1/2, 1/4, ____, 1/8, 1/10
2. 1/3, 1/6, 1/9, ____, _____, 1/18
3. 2/3,_____, 2/5
4. 1/5, _____, _____, 1/20
Guide Questions.
1.How did you get the missing term/s?
2.Which item is difficult to solve? Why
3.What formula did you use in finding the
missing term/s?
1. Find the 12th term of the harmonic sequence 1/
9, 1/12, 1/ 15,…
2. Given the arithmetic sequence -20, -26, -32, -38,..,
find the first 8 terms
of the corresponding harmonic sequence.
3. Insert a harmonic mean between 1/3 and 1/9.
Harmonic sequence is a sequence such that
the reciprocal of the terms form an arithmetic
sequence.
Harmonic means are terms between two
numbers in a harmonic sequence.
Answer individually the formative assessment.
A.Tell whether the given sequence is harmonic or not.
1.3, 7, 11, 15, 19
2.2/15, 2/10, 2/5,..
3.1/24,1/20,1/16,1/12
A.Find the 10th term of the sequence 1, 1/2, 1/3,1/4,…
B.Given the arithmetic sequence 2,4,6,8,…, find the 15 th
term of the corresponding harmonic sequence.
C.Insert two harmonic means between 1/6 and -1/6.
