Jagganath temple is a temple which is
located in Puri,Odisha which dedicatedto Jagganath (a form of lord Vishnu.) It is one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites in India, and is also well-known for the annual chariot festival or Rath Yatra. If various legends are to be believed, King Indradyumn built this holy shrine after Lord Vishnu blessed and guided him in his dreams to find Nila Madhava. When and How was it built? • It was constructed by a famous king of Ganga Dynasty Ananta Varman Chodaganga Deva dating back to 12th century at the seashore Puri. • According to hinduism King Indradyumna put up for Jagannath the tallest monument of the world. It was 1,000 cubits high. He invited Lord Brahma, the cosmic creator, consecrate the temple and the images.Brahma came all the way from Heaven for this purpose. Seeing the temple he was immensely pleased with him. Brahma asked Indradyumna as to in what way can he (Brahma) fulfill the king's desire, since was very much pleased with him for his having put the most beautiful Temple for Lord Vishnu. With folded hands, Indradyumna said, "My Lord if you are really pleased with me, kindly bless me with one thing, and it is that I should be issueless and that I should be the last member of my family." In case anybody left alive after him, he would only take pride as the owner of the temple and would not work for the society The Mystery of the Jagganath Temple • There is a beleif that people beleive that why dosent any plane or bird fly over the temple? According to hindu beleif Lord Jagannath is carried by the king of birds ‘Garuda Dev,' who holds great significance in Hindu literature. According to Rigveda, Garuda Dev is the divine eagle who acts as a vehicle to Lord Vishnu and Lord Jagannath is believed to be Lord Vishu's incarnate thus Garuda carries his temple. So, it is believed that as the king of birds Garuda Dev himself is protecting and carrying the temple that’s why birds are scared to fly above the temple. This is the religious belief of the worshippers and priests. • In any part of the world, you must have witnessed that during daytime, the wind from sea comes to the land, whereas the wind from the land blows toward sea at evening. However, in Puri, the geographical laws are also reversed. Here, just the opposite thing happens. More mysteries • An 1800-year-old ritual: Every day a priests climbs atop the temple, which is as tall as 45 storey building, to change the flag. This ritual has been in place for 1800 years. It is believed that if this ritual is ever missed, the temple will remain shut for the next 18 years. • The Jagannth temple has four doors, and Singhadwaram is the main door of entrance to the temple. While you enter through Sindhadwaram, you can clearly hear the sound of waves, but once you passed the Singhadwaram, simply take a turn and walk back in the same direction, you will no longer hear the sound of waves. In fact, you will not hear the sound of waves as long as you are inside the temple.
