SAB1401:
Pengenalan Kepada Perniagaantani
Kuliah 8: Teknologi dalam Perniagaantani

L8-1 Dr. Aryaty A. @ JSS, 2011 SAB1401

Technology

 To develop and using machinery, products, and processes.

 Small firms with limited capital, must adapt to
technological advance (rather than control them).
 Many firms depend on others to develop and perfect new
technology, such as computer microchips, only then they
use the new technology in products, automated gasoline-
pumps, electronic smoke sensor, DVDs, etc.

Technology and The Future

 Technology developments in the agriculture input

industries change production in two ways:

 First, a growing need to manage tech. better.

 Inputs suppliers need to help farmers better understanding these
new, improved inputs like equipment (tractor & computer),
chemicals and seeds as part of business DM.
 E.g. tiller of the soil – understand the technical side to get the
max output, combine various crops and livestock system
together into an efficient farming system,

Technology and The Future

 Second, technology seems to change production

techniques.
 Biotechnology – further gains in productivity.
 Genetic potential in crops and animals by careful cross-
breeding.
 Genetic adjustment – by rearranging DNA (Genetic
engineering).
 Opportunity to develop improved plants and animals, speed-up or
slow-down the growth, even out the ripening process and make
harvesting more efficient and less costly.

Technology and The Future

 Both direction dependence on computers to help farmers

better manage the people, machinery, and money in their
operation.
 Financial system for each crop – create information.
 Automating routine farm activities – irrigation system,
monitoring seed placement during planting, checking the health
status of animals, measuring temperatures in milk storage tank,
etc.
 Growing sophistication of full-time production
agriculture makes it a “high-tech” industry.
 More technologically complex production inputs.

Sources of Technology

 Farmers are good sources of many ideas for improving

technology.
 Using front weight on a tractor (made from tank filled with
water to keep the front wheels on the ground).
 Both state and federal government – sources of funding
for new technology research.
 MARDI, Universities, MPOB, FAMA, etc.
 Agribusiness firms – continuous improvement (R&D).
 The cost of new technology is part of the price of the inputs and
food items we purchase, and in the tax we pay.
