MIS as a Corporate Resource
Information is one of the most important corporate
resource. It is a source of competitive strength as it
enables the management to overcome its business
rivals at critical stage.
Information as corporate resource has the
following features:
1) Information is a value added resource. Just as it is
added to a product it moves from raw material stage
to final product as it changes from data to
information.

2) Information has a specific cost associated with it as it

is collected from market. Therefore it is essential to
acquire and utilize efficiently as it would be for any
other resource.
Information as corporate resource has the
following features:
3) Information is required to be shared by all associated
with it to achieve the goal of the organisation.
4) 4) Information has to be protected by implementing
appropriate security policies and procedures.
5). Most of the information is organisation specific and
its value depends upon its use by the decision maker.
6). It has a high rate of obsolescence so it must reach the
user as early as possible.
