What is Mycelium ?
Mycelium is the vegetative filament
root structure of mushrooms. It is
essential to growing materials from
organic and synthetic substrates
that are the by-products or ‘wastes’
of other industries.
Mycelium insulation
Why Mycelium?
Mycelium has recently garnered
increasing attention from
academic and industrial sectors
due to its minimal energy
requirements during growth,
absence of by-product generation,
and extensive potential
applications
Why Mycelium?
Mycelium not only outperforms
petrochemical/plastic-based construction
materials in thermal and acoustic
insulation but, as a natural material, it is
also safer and healthier. Agricultural by-
products that would otherwise go to
landfill can be used to grow mycelium,
and the entire manufacturing process has
a small carbon footprint.

Thermal Capacity
Mycelium properties
aterials made with mycelium are highly effective thermal insulating products. They outperform most of the natural alternatives
M
currently available. Biohm's mycelium insulation has achieved thermal conductivity as low as 0.03W/m.K
Fire Performance
Mycelium releases significantly less heat and smoke during burning, with a much lower average and peak heat release rates. When
exposed to fire, it takes longer to flash due to its charring behaviour.
Acoustic Performance
ycelium provides excellent acoustic insulation. Tests show an acoustic absorption of at least 75% at 1000Hz (the typical frequency of
M
road traffic noise).
Indoor Air Quality
Biohm's insulation is breathable, wicks moisture and contains negligible amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), achieving an
A+ rating. It allows air to pass through naturally whilst also blocking particulates, reducing dampness and improving indoor air quality.
Durability
Mycelium products are at least as durable as most conventional construction materials. They maintain their insulative properties
throughout their life.
Buildability
iohm's mycelium materials are easily installed and do not require training or additional safety equipment. They are manufactured
B
following industry standards.
