Our fight against fast fashion

By yours truly: Esset

HOMEPAGE
• Our fight against fast fashion

• Our Mission:

• Our mission:

• It's part of our fight to stop fast fashion association over the next 3 years. Here's how it'll work. We are to
make a lobby group (which is Also known as interest groups working on behalf of a particular cause in
order to influence decisions, and to change things going forward Influence political decisions. Using
media campaigns or get the local member of parliament to support them) to ask the leader of the
environment of Australia, Reece Whitby to ban fast fashion. Its mainly targeted towards 18 to 24year old
female in Australia.
ABOUT US
Fast fashion isn’t just cheap trendy clothes they bring harm
environment by polluting it. In addition to environmental issues,
fast fashion garments spark a lot of ethical concerns. They are
often made in sweatshops where underpaid workers are
employed for long hours in unsafe conditions and are exposed to
harmful chemicals used in textile production as well as the poor
animals who are abused daily for their fur.

• I believe by having protest, getting involved and contacting a member of the

government Reece Whitby to help us in our goal.
• our goal is to stop fast fashion within 3 to 5 years time and bring slow fashion
because it is a way of reducing waste and using fewer resources, so it's a big help to
the sustainable fashion movement in Australia
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
• We can do a lot of things personally like : 1. Shop from sustainable and
ethical fashion brands and Donate or sell gently used clothing but that is
not big enough to get the governments attention so we are hosting the
Australia Citizen Live campaign\ protest to defeat fast fashion and
defend the planet by taking action , and become part of a movement
powered by our fight to stop fast fashion association and Reece Whitby to
get the government noticed.

FAST FASHION ?
• Fast fashion can be defined as Inexpensive and trendy clothing. The idea is to get the
newest styles on the market as fast as possible, so shoppers can buy them up while they
are still at the height of their popularity and then, throw them away after a few wears. All
of the elements of fast fashion including quick production, low quality and competitive
pricing add up to having a huge impact on the planet and the people involved in
production.
• Fast fashion has many negative impacts. The constant speed and demand mean more
stress on environmental areas such as land clearing, biodiversity, and soil quality. Fast
fashion's negative impact includes its use of cheap, toxic dyes, making the fashion
industry the second largest polluter of clean water globally. Fast fashion impacts garment
workers who work in dangerous environments, for low wages, and without fundamental
human rights. Further down the chain, the farmers may work with toxic chemicals that
can have devastating results on their overall health, a plight highlighted by the
documentary The True Cost. The cruel truth encompasses not only the unfair treatment
of workers but also negatively impacts our planet. Fast fashion

WHO DOES IT EFFECT ?
• Does fast fashion effect the environment ?
• Who made your clothes? That's a question you should wonder. With many social impacts. Fast fashion impacts the
environment as well. The production phase, which involves growing and working raw materials into textiles and
assembling them into garments, is most environmentally destructive. Half of the environmental costs associated with
a T-shirt come from its production, and in jeans it's more than half. The oceans fill with pollution and ruins homes to
many animals.
• What do the workers go through ?
• Workers are often paid an incredibly low wage and are forced to work in unsafe conditions with poor work facilities.
The harsh realities go as far as child labour and slavery. Imagine yourself being in there shoes. Imagine having to work
day and night only to get less than a living wage? An Oxfam 2019 report found that 0% of Bangladeshi garment
workers and 1% of Vietnamese garment workers earned a living wage. This prevents workers from saving money to
have a safety net while looking for alternative work choices. Often, women start their daughters working in the factory
as young as age ten to help feed their family because one persons wage is inadequate and not enough.
• What do the animals go through ?
• Animal abuse within the fashion industry comes in two parts: one part tortures the animal directly by objectifying it
for its fur, its skin, or its hide, while the other part harms animals by polluting their habitat and disrupting their food
chains. In both circumstances the processes involved in fashion production make it impossible for these animals to
live wild and tree Every year, billions of animals suffer and die for clothing and accessories. The vast majority of the
billions of animals who are killed for their skin, wool, feathers, or fur endure all the horrors of factory farming.
Sensitive living beings are forced to live in cramped, filthy conditions, and every bit of freedom and autonomy is taken
away from themAnimals suffer at the hands of workers, who may roughly handle, kick, and beat them. After a lifetime
of torment, they're violently slaughtered via the cheapest means possible, including bludgeoning. anal electrocution,
and gassing. Fast fashion impacts the animals through the environment as well. it is the cause of water pollution and
carbon emissions which effects the way animals live

HEALTH AND SAFETY
On top of denying scores and scores of men, women, and children of their
human basic rights, and of paying its workers with insufficient wages, the
fashion industry poses fatal threats to the lives of its workers and
employees Mot farmers and workers endure exposure to pesticide, toxic
dyes and poisoning from chemicals. They are found to suffer from
headaches, tremors, lack or coordination, loss of consciousness,
respiratory disease, depression, palpitation, seizures and even, death.
This is the result of big brands wanting to minimise costs and maximise
profit. The lack of concern for their workers and their wellbeing leads to
failure to apply the fundamental workplace health and safety standards

WHAT CAN WE USE INSTEAD OF FAST FASHION?
• Well since fast fashion is bad the opposite of that must be good right? Yes it is
called slow fashion (which is quite literally the opposite of fast fashion) basically
Slow fashion is a movement that encourages consumers to buy apparel that is
manufactured, sourced, and distributed sustainably. initially you might think you're
spending more. Although slow fashion items are often slightly more expensive than
fast fashion substitute, Instead, you may just:
• 1. Recycle your clothes,

• 2. Donate,

• 3. Ask where and who made these,

• 4. Check and research the brand to see if it is ethical Look for the quality clothing so
it will last longer.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF USING SLOW
FASHION ?
The top benefit of slow fashion is firstly to protect the planet. Protecting the
environment is the primary advantage of slow fashion. The promotion of goods and
practises that conserve our environment is, of course, one of the most obvious reasons
to support the slow fashion movement. If you didn't know, fast fashion contributes more
than all international flights and maritime transport combined to the world's annual
carbon emissions, which total roughly 10%. By 2030, it is expected that emissions of
dangerous glasshouse gases would increase by more than 50%.Additionally, the fashion
industry (including cotton farming) utilises 93 billion cubic metres of water yearly, or 4%
of all freshwater withdrawals worldwide. In fact, it takes a startling 3,781 litres of water
simply to make one pair of trousers.

Slow fashion is more than just about using the right materials or slogans. Instead, it
focuses on the sourcing, production, and distribution of clothing and accessories: it
looks at every step along the way to making trendy items, and it maximises Eco-
friendliness and sustainability at each part of the progression. This means that when
you shop with slow fashion in mind, you can make a real difference in several different
ways. Obviously there are more benefits like, To Help the Local Economy, To Promote
Fair Labor and To Protect Animals etc, etc.
IF FAST FASHION IS SO BAD WHY DO PEOPLE
STILL BUY FROM THERE COMPANY ?
Well first of all people simply just don’t know and don’t care but, for
those who don’t know but care and are interested, is the reason why we
have made this lobby group to let people know what happening in the
fashion industry.
