I swam my hundredth width of the pool.

The hard work this month had been
worth it, I was getting faster. I did not
swim lengths, because I did not want to
get out of my depth. When I reached the
side, I got out of the pool and headed
for the showers. I put a splodge of
shampoo in my thick hair and then
washed all the froth off.

My friends had asked me to walk

home with them; my feet thudded
on the path as I ran to catch up,
thanking them for waiting for me.
