Catalogue (n.)
Definition: a list of all the items that exist in one place.

Example: The catalogue gives a full


description of each product in the store.
Astronomer (n.)
Definition: Someone who studies the universe and
objects that exist naturally in space.

Example: An astronomer can determine the


brightness of each star.
Naked eye
Definition: ability to see without the help of an
instrument

Example: Bacteria are not visible to the naked


eye.
Observatory (n.)
 Definition: a building from which scientists can
watch the planets, the stars, the weather, etc.

Example: Local observatory alerted residents that


there would be a dust storm the next day.
Satellite (n.)
 Definition: a natural or artificial object that orbits
another object

Example: In 1970,China successfully lauched a


man-made satellite.
Cosmonaut (n.)
 Definition: a Soviet astronaut.

Example: Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first


man to orbit the Earth.
Astronaut (n.)
 Definition: a person who has been trained for travelling
in space (e.g. members of the NASA space programme)

Example:
An astronaut,

mission, gives a
quick thumbs up to a
cameraman.
Artificial (adj.)
 Definition: Artificial objects, materials, or processes do not
occur naturally and are created by human beings
using science or technology.

Example: The city is dotted with small lakes,


natural and artificial.
Magnify (v.)
 Definition: To magnify an object means to make
it appear larger than it really is, by means of a special lens
or mirror.

Example: The new version of the telescope


magnifies images 11 times.
Observe (v.)
 Definition: If you observe a person or thing, you watch them
carefully, especially in order to learn something about them.

Example: The students observed the growth of


the plants in the science classes.
