NASAL SOUNDS

NASAL Sounds are produced when the air is completely blocked in the
articulatory chamber and forced to pass through the nasal cavity.
The English nasal sounds are: /m/, /n/,/ /ŋ/.

/m/
This is realized in words with:
‘m’ - warm, comfort, chamber, monarch, chimney, mountain, motor,
etc.
‘mb’ – lamb, succumb, plumb, comb, climber, tomb, etc.
‘mm’ – committee, hammer, symmetry, etc.
‘mn’ – condemn, solemn, etc.
‘me’ – flame, shame, phoneme, home, etc.
‘mme; - programme.
/n/
This realized in words with the letters:
‘n’ – sudden, colonel, challenge, monarch, nation,
naught, etc.
‘kn’ – knight, known, knee, knowledge, etc.
‘nn’ – canned, winner, thinner, etc.
‘nd’ – sandwich.
‘ne’ – phone, lone.
‘gn’ – gnash, gnaw, reign, gnat, etc.
‘pn’ – pneumonia, pneumatic, stc.
/ŋ/
This is realized in words with the letters:
‘ng’ – bring, length, hung, sting, sing, dangle, belong,
etc.
‘n’ – handkerchief, anxious, think, sink, stink, bank, stink,
etc.
