Engineered Cementitious Composite(ECC)
POLY VINYL ALCOHOL FIBER (PVA) While
selecting fibres for ECC, it was found that
polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fibre was of low cost
and high performance. The hydrophilic nature
of PVA fibre imposed great challenge in the
composite design, as the fibres are susceptible
to rupture instead of being pulled out because
of the tendency for the fibre to bond strongly to
cementitious matrix.

OBJECTIV
E
Enhanced Flexibility and Durability:
the main goal is to create a concrete material that can withstand bending, flexing,
and deformation without compromising its structural integrity.

Improved Crack Resistance:

Bendable concrete aims to minimize the development of cracks, which are
common in traditional concrete due to its limited tensile strength. By incorporating
specialized additives and materials

Increased Tensile Strength:

Traditional concrete is inherently weak in tension. The objective of bendable
concrete is to significantly enhance its tensile strength allowing it to absorb and
distribute forces more
SCOPE
 Structural Behavior :
Studying the behavior of bendable concrete structures
under various loads, including static, dynamic, and seismic
forces.
 Durability and Longevity:
Investigating the durability of bendable concrete over
time, considering factors such as moisture resistance, chemical
exposure, freeze-thaw cycles, and long-term performance.
Evaluating how it stands up to environmental challenges.

METHODOLOGY
Material Selection

Choose cementitious materials, aggregates, and

additives that enhance flexibility and tensile
strength. Polymer fibers, microfibers, or
nanoparticles are often added to improve the
material's ability to bend and resist cracking.

Mixture Proportioning
Develop a precise mix design that balances the
properties of conventional concrete with the
desired flexibility. Adjust the proportions of
cement, aggregates, water, and additives to
achieve the required performance

Material test
 TESTING ON CONCRETE
After curing process, the specimen has to be tested. Investigations are carried out by
testing cubes, slabs for 7, 14, 28 days. Cubes were tested on Compression testing
equipment and slabs of (two different thickness) were tested on flexural testing machine
and during this flexural testing the bendable characteristics of slab also been determined.
The results are given below:
 Workability
 The term workability is hard to define precisely, and Newman (1965) has proposed
that it can define in three separate properties:
 Compatibility. This means the 'ease and ability of the concrete can be compacted and
the air voids are removed' (Murdock et. al, 1968).
 Mobility. It terms as the 'ease and ability of the concrete can pour into the moulds,
around the steel and be remoulded' (Murdock et. al, 1968).

In this paper the compression and flexural strength of
bendable concrete is done the values are compared with
conventional cubes and slabs. Therefore it is proved that
the bendable concrete is more strength than the
conventional concrete and it is more flexible so that it
resists cracks and acts as more efficiency in seismic
regions.
