Maria was a beautiful and pious farm girl. At the age of 12,she
was attacked by a 19 year old farmer Alessandro Serenelli. He
tried to rape her but she fought and begged him not to harm
her. She told him it was a sin and that he would go to hell. But
her attacker did not listen. He choked Maria and stabbed her
14 times. Maria survived in the hospital for 2 days, forgave her
attacker, and asked God’s forgiveness of Him. She died
holding a crucifix and medal of Our Lady. While in prison for
his crimes, Maria appeared to Alessandro in a vision. She was
smiling at him while giving a handful of white lilies. This led
him to his conversion.
