Proofreading for peer feedback
• Proofread the paragraphs which you have been given – remember to be polite, and to give
constructive criticism
• Identify the topic sentence, and look for the topic and main idea
• Check that the supporting sentences all connect to the main idea of the paragraph
• If there is any information here which doesn’t belong, let the writer know, and explain why
• If there is any unnecessary repetition, or fluff (unnecessary words), let the writer know, and
explain why.
• Check that the supporting ideas are developed enough with details, do they give examples, research, facts,
statistics? –What questions do you have which you would like the writer to answer here? Check citations
(where do the quotations, facts, statistics etc. come from?)
• Check that there is a concluding sentence – does it repeat the main idea using different words? Does it
connect this paragraph to the following one?
• Do the paragraphs from all members of the group connect well to the paragraphs of the other group members?
• Join all the body paragraphs together in the most logical order, then add an introduction and concluding paragraph. Print.
