 Where is?
San Francisco, in Northern California, is a mountainous city at the
tip of a peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and San
Francisco Bay.
 Why is famous?
 San Francisco is famous for its hills. There are more than 50 hills
within the city limits. Some of the neighborhood names are named
after the hill they are located on, such as Nob Hill, Pacific Heights,
and Russian Hill.

In 1848 the California Gold Rush propelled the town into a period of
rapid growth, growing from 1,000 to 25,000 inhabitants in a year,
making the town the largest on the West Coast at the time.
San Francisco belonged to the Viceroyalty of New Spain until the
independence of Mexico in 1821.

The city includes too many islands located within the bay (the most
famous being Alcatraz), as well as the Farallones, which are located
43 kilometers off the coast in the Pacific Ocean.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge located in California,
United States, linking the San Francisco Peninsula to the north with
Marin County to the south, near Sausalito.
Twin Peaks, named for its two 920-foot-high peaks, is a remote
residential neighborhood with modern homes crammed on steep lots
along winding streets. A verdant 26-hectare hilltop park is a popular
attraction, with walking trails leading to windswept peaks and 360-
degree views of the Bay Area.
