What is Career?

Career – Chosen Profession for your life. Requires a


willingness to get the training needed to build your
skills for the future.
A career is the work a person does. It is the sequence of
jobs that an individual has held throughout his or her
working life including, job positions, job duties,
decisions and subjective interpretations about work-
related events.

Components of Career Planning
1. Self-analysis
The initial stage is to perform a self-analysis on the skill set.This
will determine the type of career options that are suitable to
pursue in the future. Personal preferences, strengths,
knowledge, and abilities are needed to be tested.

2. Analysis of an opportunity
After deciding upon the career that an individual wants to
follow. The next would be to analyze the available opportunities
in the job market
3. The setting of a goal
The most significant part of short or long term career planning is
the setup of a goal. It helps in the job search as well as career
opportunities.

4. Generation of a strategy and employing an action plan


After setting up goals that individual aims to achieve. He needs to
decide on the path that will lead him to implement the plan
successfully. This also involves the acquirement of the necessary
resources and skills to fulfill the set goals.

development consists of personal improvements undertaken by
the individual employee, training, development and educational
programmes provided by the organization and various institutes.
