 2016 RSPC qualifiers

 One of the 14 division of schools

 One of 42 qualifiers

 Seven will be declared RSPC winners

 Only the top three will qualify for the NSPC


Criteria for judging: Content
 Contest outputs are judged based on three criteria:
Content 50%, Technical 40% and Ethics 10%
 Content must “present a clear picture of the events in the
game.”
 It “utilizes an appropriate sports news reporting style.”

 It “uses interviews, statistics, reference and research.”


Criteria for judging: Technical
 Technical refers to form and style
 Use of appropriate terminologies

 Proper description of the event

 Adequate use of statistical information

 Appropriate headline

 Observance of the rules of grammar and syntax

 Conformity to principles of unity and coherence of


sentences
Criteria for judging: Ethics
 Fairness in treatment
 Balance in presentation

 Relevance on use of terminologies

 Accuracy in statistical information

 Attribution of information to sources

 Observance of copyright laws


What to expect in contests
 Data may be provided and must be analyzed
 Game will be viewed on screen

 Game will be viewed live

 Players, coaches, officials may be interviewed

 Expect the unexpected on what game will be played

 Games may be played indoor or outdoor

 Rain or shine sports coverage

 Extra paper for note-taking will be allowed

 Bags, backpacks, mobile phones and tablets will have to


be deposited in holding area
Not just sports news
 Those in secondary level, “they may be given sports
news, feature or editorial topics,” as stated in DepEd
Memorandum No. 149, s. 2015 which Education
Secretary Br Armin A. Luistro FSC issued on Dec. 1,
2015 in preparation for the 2016 NSPC
 Those in the elementary level will still be made to
“watch and actual game where they can gather
appropriate data and or interview officials and athletes
before and after the game.
2016 Cagayan de Oro DSPC
 The game was sepak takraw regu
 It was played outdoor and live

 Players represented NMRAA sepak takraw boys in the


2016 Palarong Pambansa
 Players and coaches were presented and interview was
allowed before the game
 Post-game interview was also allowed

 Scoreboard was provided

 Referee (official) gave the running score

 Aside from sports writers, photojournalists (collaborative


publishing) were there too
How was my contest output?
 Was it in accordance with the criteria? Content,
Technical and Ethics?
 Sports is news writing, did I follow the inverted pyramid
structure?
 Are my Ws and Hs complete?

 Sports is feature, too. Was it descriptive, detailed and


dramatic?
 Did I have a news peg?

 Did I conduct interview?

 Did I indicate the final score the lead?

 Was my headline appropriate—catchy and short?
