A STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
By Shauryaveer Chaudhry and Navya Dewan
Introduction
• Model United Nations (MUN) is a
simulation of the United Nations where
students from different schools and
colleges participate to discuss global
issues and propose solutions. To excel in
an MUN, thorough research is crucial.
Research helps you understand the topic,
form opinions, and present your ideas
convincingly.
• In this presentation, we will discuss how
to research for a MUN effectively. We
will cover topics like understanding the
topic, sources of information, evaluating
sources, and taking notes.
• Understanding the
Agenda
• Before starting your research, it is
important to understand the agenda of your
conference thoroughly. Read the
background guide provided by the
executive board carefully. Look up any
unfamiliar terms or concepts. Lobby with
other members of your committee and
brainstorm ideas.
• Researching without understanding the
topic can lead to irrelevant information
and weak arguments. Therefore, take the
time to comprehend the topic before
diving into research.
