FOG

• Fog is a very low lying cloud

 Types of FOG
• Radiation fog
- It forms at night under clear, cold, and relatively calm conditions.
• Advection fog
- It forms when warm, moist air moves over a cold ground.
SMOG

• Smoke or soot in the form of fog is sometimes refferd to

as smog. The term smog can also refer to the thck air
that makes it difficult to breathe.

 What is SMOG made of?

- When fuels are burned, smog forming chemicals are discharged into the
atmosphere.
PRESSURE AND WIND
GROUP II -- EARTH SCIENCE
AIR PRESSURE
• Air pressure is the force of the weight of air pressing down on a
unit of area.
• Air pressure is exerted in all directions (downward, upward, and
sideways).

 AIR MASS CLASSIFICATION

- TROPICAL MARITIME (Tm) - POLAR MARITIME (Pm)
- TROPICAL CONTINENTAL (Tc) - POLAR CONTINENTAL (Pc)
FRONTS and WEATHER
FRONTS
GROUP II -- EARTH SCIENCE
FRONTS

 TYPES OF FRONTS
• Cold Fronts
- A cold front is a boundary where a cooler air mass displaces
warmer air, leading to distinct weather changes.
• Stationary Fronts
- A stationary front occurs when two air masses meet but neither
has enough force to displace rthe other.
FRONTS

 TYPES OF FRONTS
• Warm Fronts
- A warm front is symbolized on a weather mas as a line with
semicircles.
• Occulded Fronts
- An occulded front is symbolized on a weather map as a line with
both a semicircles and triangles.
WEATHER FRONTS

 HOW EARTH’S SURFACE FEATURE AFFECT WEATHER?

- A region’s wether canbe influenced by a variety of Earth’s
surface features.
 MOUNTAIN RANGES AND RAIN-SHADOW DESERTS
- When air flows over a mountain range, it cools adiabatically and
condense into clouds that may produce rain or snow, aprocess
known as orogaphic lifting.
SEA and LAND BREEZES

 SEA and LAND BREEZES

- These are local wind patterns influenced by temperature
differences between land and water.
 MONSOONS
-It is a seasonal reversal of the overall wind pattern in an area.
