Introduction
The term "mechatronics" was first coined by a Mr. Tetsuro Mori, a
senior engineer of the Japanese company Yaskawa, in 1969.

Basically, it refers to mechanical electronic systems and is normally

described as a synergistic combination of mechanics,
electrical/electronics, computer and control.

When combined, it makes possible the generation of simple, more

economic, and reliable systems.

Overleaf is a schematic of the components of a mechatronic system.

Physically, a mechatronic system is composed of four prime

components, namely:
- Sensors/actuators - Digital circuitry
- Controllers - Mechanical systems

Students should do the following:

 take time to analyze each of the

above mechatronic systems.

 take note in each case of possible

sensors and actuators at play.
Career Paths in Mechatronics

 Mechatronics is seen as a prime career path for mechanical engineers

of the future.

 Mechatronics engineers with a mechanical engineering background

have a better chance of becoming successful mechatronics engineers.

 Classically trained mechanical engineers will run the risk of being left
out of the interesting work.
