External Radio
Kits

• Volvo provides 3 AMO kits to install external radios:

 Satel

 Trimble

 Intuicom

• Note:
The radio and the radio antenna are NOT part of the AMO
kits. The customer needs to supply his own supported radio,
radio antenna and antenna cable

• Note:
All external radio’s need to be configured with the supplied
software, tools and cables from the radio supplier

Competence Development & Delivery/ Dig Assist 4.0 Technical Training

External Radio
Satel Kit

• Fits on Radio types:

 Satel Proof TR4 (mostly used in Europe)

 Satel Proof TR9 (mostly used in North

America)

• Use case: Some Topcon base stations

require this kind of radio

Competence Development & Delivery/ Dig Assist 4.0 Technical Training

External Radio
Trimble Kit

• Fits on Radio type:

 Trimble SNR radios e.g. SNR430 (400MHz
Version) or SNR930 (900MHz Version)

• Use case: Some Trimble base stations

require this kind of radio

Competence Development & Delivery/ Dig Assist 4.0 Technical Training

External Radio
Intuicom Kit

• Fits on Radio type:

 Intuicom MCR900

• Use case: Some Leica base stations

require this kind of radio

Examples for mountpoints
Example of Topnet mountpoints:

Single base means direct connection

to refercence station ->
means you need to take care about the distance
or choose a network mountpoint

• Take care about satelite constellations

Pros and Cons
RTK vs. NTRIP
RTK via Base Station
● Pros:
• Accuracy is same in both solutions
● No contract needed
● Independent from mobile internet
connection • Which system get used is depending on
● Cons: the customer`s needs
● Set-up of base station needed
● Additional HW needed, e.g. Base
station, power supply and three
pole

RTK via Ntrip

● Pros:
● No local setup needed
● Easy access
● No additional hardware needed
● Cons:
● Mobile internet connection needed,
reception min 2G
● SIM card and Ntrip contract
needed
