ABOUT HIM
 A. R. Rahman, originally named A. S.
Dileep Kumar, was born on January 6,
1967, in Chennai, India. His father’s name
is R. K. Shekhar, and his mother’s name is
Kareema Begum.In his early years, he
converted to Islam and adopted the name
Allah Rakha Rahman.
EDUCATION

 A. R. Rahman attended the Madras Christian College Higher


Secondary School in Chennai. However, he did not complete his
formal education at a traditional university. His early interest and
involvement in music led him to pursue a career in the field, and he
started working as a session musician and composer at a young age.
Rahman's journey in the music industry began before he completed
traditional higher education.
CAREER
 Rahman’s musical journey began at a young age. He learned classical music
from his mother and later studied Western classical music and keyboard at the
Trinity College of Music in London. After returning to India, he started his
career as a composer in the Tamil film industry.
 His breakthrough came when he was approached by director Mani Ratnam to
compose the soundtrack for the 1992 Tamil film “Roja.” The success of this
soundtrack marked the start of Rahman’s illustrious career as a film composer.
“Roja” not only garnered critical acclaim but also showcased Rahman’s
innovative and unique approach to music, setting the stage for his remarkable
journey in the Indian and global music industry.
HIT FIMS

 Roja (1992): Rahman's debut film as a composer, which gained widespread


recognition for its groundbreaking music.
 Dil Se (1998): Known for its soul-stirring music, including the iconic "Chaiyya
Chaiyya" featuring Malaika Arora and Shah Rukh Khan.
 Lagaan (2001): The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best
Foreign Language Film, and Rahman's music was widely appreciated.
 Rang De Basanti (2006): The soundtrack, blending traditional and
contemporary elements, struck a chord with the audience.
 Slumdog Millionaire (2008): Rahman's work on this film earned him
international acclaim, including Academy Awards for Best Original Score and

Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media and Best Song Written for Visual
Media for "Jai Ho" from "Slumdog Millionaire.“
 National Film Awards: Rahman has received several National Film Awards in
India for Best Music Direction for films like "Roja," "Lagaan," "Kannathil
Muthamittal,“.

 Padma Bhushan: He was honored with India's third-highest civilian


award, the Padma Bhushan, in 2010.
