INTRODUCTION
Philippines is a country that is surrounded by water. Because of this, fishing is one of

the most reliable sources of living for a large number of families in the country, it has

lots of coastal municipalities and it includes the municipalities of Calabanga with 48

barangays and 11 of them are coastal areas also one of the coastal municipalities is

Tinambac with 45 barangays and 22 are coastal areas.

Statement of the Problem

This study was conducted and aimed to determine and assess the Gear and fish Catch of the

fishermen in the major coastal areas in Calabanga and Tinambac Camarines Sur. Specifically; to

identify various types of fishing gear used in fishing in different seasons; the various species of fish were

caught in different fishing gear in different seasons; how much catch per unit of effort (day, hour spent in

fishing) during fishing season; and to determine the average fishing duration during season.
Statement of the Problem (Revised)
Many years had passed and there had been no recent updates regarding in San Miguel Bay,
however the researchers conducted this study to have new updates regarding the assessment in
San Miguel Bay, especially in major coastal areas in Calabanga and Tinambac Camarines Sur.
Moreover, the researcher’s aimed to determine and assess the Gear and fish Catch of the fisherfolks
in two municipalities. Specifically; to identify the demographic profile of the fisherfolks, to
determine what types of fishermen where they belong, to determine the various species of fish that
caught by different fishing gear that used by fishermen in different season, how many catch per unit
of effort (kg/day) during fishing season of the fisherfolks, and to determine the daily average fishing duration
of the fisherfolks.

of the fisherfolks.
Objectives of the Study
The primary aim of this study was to identify and assess The Gear and Fish Catch of the fishermen
in Calabanga and Tinambac Camarines Sur.
This study was anchored on the following specific objectives:
1. Determine what type of fishermen where they belong.
2. Determine the various types of fishing gear used in different seasons.
3. Determine the various species of fish of different fishing gear in different seasons.
4. Determine the catch per unit of effort (CPUE) by season.
5. Determine the fishing duration by fishermen by season.
Objectives of the Study (Revised)
The primary aim of this study was to identify and assess The Gear and Fish Catch of the fishermen in
Calabanga and Tinambac Camarines Sur. Furthermore, this study aimed to.
Determine the Socio-Demographic profile of the fisherfolks.
Determine the respondent’s cluster: Part time or Full time.
Determine the various species of fish that caught by different fishing gear that used by fisherfolks in
different season.
Determine the catch per unit of effort (CPUE) by season.
Determine the daily fishing duration of fisherfolks.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The main objective of this study was to assess determine the Gear and Fish Catch in
Calabanga and Tinambac Camarines Sur.
This study focused on fishermen at coastal areas in Calabanga such as Punta Tarawal,
Balongay, Sabang, Bonot and Cagsao with two hundred thirty (230) total number of
respondents. Barangay New Caaluan, Sogod, Bagacay, Buenavista and Cagliliog from
Tinambac Camarines Sur with two hundred fifth teen (215) total number of respondents. A
total Four Hundred Forty-Five (445) of respondents in two municipalities. To gather data,
interview will be the main research instrument used in this study.
The study was conducted during the year of 2022 from the month of October to January.
Scope and Limitations of the Study (Revised)
The main objective of this study was to assess determine the Gear and Fish Catch in Calabanga
and Tinambac Camarines Sur.
This study focused on fishefolks in major coastal areas in Calabanga such as Punta Tarawal,
Balongay, Sabang, Bonot and Cagsao with 230 total numbers of respondents. Also, in
Municipality of Tinambac are Barangay New Caaluan, Sogod, Bagacay, Buenavista and Cagliliog
from Tinambac Camarines Sur with 215 total numbers of respondents.
The limitation of this study was the researcher did not meet the seasonality environment
conditions in San Miguel Bay and to meet all the coastal areas in Calabanga and Tinambac
Camarines Sur.
The study was conducted during the year of 2022 from the month of October to January.
Significance of the study (Revised)

Community. This study will give ideas about the San Miguel Bay, to determine the various
fishing gears and various species of fish.

Fisherfolks. The study will assist fishermen in determining the best fishing gear to use
during various seasons and in predicting the likelihood that different fish species will be caught
during a particular season. Additionally, the study will serve as a guide for what to anticipate in
terms of CPUE by season.
