MAINTANCE OF AC INDUCTION MOTOR

To ensure proper functioning and longevity of

an AC motor, regular maintenance is essential.
Here are some procedures for the maintenance
of an AC motor

• Inspection: Regularly inspect the motor for

any signs of wear, damage, or overheating.
Check for loose connections, corrosion, or
accumulation of dirt and debris.
• Lubrication: Follow the manufacturer's guidelines
for lubricating the motor bearings. Proper lubrication
reduces friction and heat, preventing premature wear.
Use the recommended lubricant type and quantity.

• Cleaning: Keep the motor clean to prevent dirt and

debris from entering the motor housing. Use
compressed air or a soft brush to remove dust and
particles from the motor vents, cooling fins, and
external surfaces.
• Cooling system: Check the cooling system, such as the
fan and ventilation openings, to ensure proper airflow.
Clean or replace the fan if necessary to maintain
adequate cooling.
• Electrical connections: Inspect the motor's electrical
connections for tightness and signs of overheating.
Loose or corroded connections can lead to increased
resistance and motor inefficiency. Tighten or replace any
faulty connections.
• Motor alignment: Verify that the motor is correctly
aligned with the driven equipment. Misalignment can
cause excessive wear on the motor and decrease its
efficiency. Adjust the alignment if needed.

• Temperature monitoring: Monitor the motor's

temperature during operation using temperature sensors.
Excessive heat can damage the motor windings. If
temperatures are consistently high, investigate and
address the underlying causes.
• Vibration analysis: Periodically analyze the motor's
vibration levels using vibration analysis tools.
Excessive vibration can indicate misalignment, bearing
issues, or other mechanical problems that need
attention.

• Belt tension: If the motor is connected to a belt-

driven system, check the belt tension regularly. Adjust
the tension according to manufacturer specifications to
prevent slippage or excessive strain on the motor.
• Regular servicing: Schedule periodic servicing by a
qualified technician to perform comprehensive
maintenance tasks, including internal cleaning,
inspection of internal components, and testing of motor
performance.
