Consumption of Edible Oil

• In 2001-02, the total consumption was 10,125 '000 tons. By


2020-21, the total consumption had increased to 21,660 '000
tons. This represents increase of over 110%.
• 18% of this volume is consumed by food processing enterprises
such as Snacks, Bakery, etc.
• 20% of this volume consumed by HoReCa.
• 62% of this volume consumed by domestic consumers.
• The consumption volume is projected to be 23-24 Mn MT by
FY 2025.
• Palm oil is the most consumed edible oil in India as well as in
the world, accounting for over 38% of the total domestic
consumption and more than 40% of the total global
consumption respectively.
• China, India, Indonesia, The USA, The European Union are the
major consumers of Edible Oil in the world.

• Growing Middle Class: -The households with annual earnings between US$
5,000-10,000 have grown at a CAGR of 10%.
• Rise of Hotels, Restaurants and Bakeries.
• Consumers shifting towards packaged and branded products.
• Emergence of Modern Retail and Online Grocery delivery platforms.

• Challenge: -
• Lack of integrated supply chain and infrastructure: - Nearly 90% of food
processing units are small scale, operating with limited use of technology to
enhance the lifespan of their produce.
