1.3 Lesson 3 - Client-Server and Peer-To-peer
STARTER
How do torrents work?
Are they an example of a client-server or
peer-to-peer approach to networking?
Is torrenting a quicker or slower way of downloading
video files – and why?
GCSE J277 Unit 1.3| Computer networks, connections and protocols Craig’n’Dave
STARTER
Torrents are an example of peer-to-peer networking.
With a peer-to-peer
approach, the requesting
peer finds out which of the
connected peers have the
required file via a tracker.
tracker
A small part of the file is
requested and downloaded
from multiple peers, sharing
the load and making the
download quicker as a result.
