• Fibonacci is the greatest
European Mathematician of the
middle ages.

• Born in 1170 and died in 1240.

• He introduce the Arabic number


system in Europe.
ORIGIN OF FIBONACCI SQUENCE
• Fibonacci Sequence was
discovered after an
investigation on the
reproduction of rabbits.
GROWING POPULATION OF RABBITS
• Problem: Suppose a newly-
born pair of rabbits (one
male, one female) are put in
a field. Rabbits can mate at
the age of one month so that
at end of the second month,
a female can produce
another pair of rabbits.
FIBONACCI SEQUENCE
• Fibonacci sequence is an integer in the
infinite sequence 1,1,2,3,5,8,13,… of which
the first two terms are 1 and 1 and each
succeeding term is the sum of the two
immediately preceding.

• Simple rule: adding the last two to get the


next term
How many Pairs will be there in one year?

• So, 144 pairs will be


there at the end of one
year.

• Make a table or chart.
• Work backwards.
• Try to solve a similar but simpler problem .
• Look for a pattern.
• Write an equation. If necessary, define what each variable represents.
• Perform an experiment.
• Guess at solution and the check your result.
CARRY OUT THE PLAN
• Work carefully

• Keep an accurate and neat record of all your attempts.

• Realize that some of your initial plan will not work and
that you may have to devise another plan or modify
your existing plan.
REVIEW THE SOLUTION

• Ensure that solution is consistent with the facts of the


problem.
• Interpret the solution in the context of the problem.
• Ask yourself whether there are generalizations of the
solution that could apply to other problems.
