CHRISTMAS IN By Frunza Alexandr

MOLDOVA
Christmas is celebrated
according to two different
calendars: the old (still
followed in Russia) and the
new orthodox calendar
(followed in Romania);
therefore, some families
celebrate on the 25th of
December, while the majority
of the population still celebrate
Christmas on the 7th of
January.
HOW WE CELEBRATE
CHRISTMAS IN MOLDOVA?
In Moldova, Christmas is typically
celebrated with a mix of religious traditions
and festive customs. Families gather for a
special Christmas Eve meal, which often
includes traditional dishes. Many attend a
midnight church service to mark the birth of
Jesus. On Christmas Day, families exchange
gifts, visit friends and relatives, and enjoy
festive meals together. Caroling is also a
common tradition, with groups of children
going door-to-door singing Christmas
carols.
IN ADDITION
Christmas Eve and Christmas
Day celebrations, Moldovans
often engage in various
customs and rituals during the
holiday season. Some people
follow the tradition of fasting
on Christmas Eve until the first
star appears in the evening sky,
after which the festive meal
begins.
OVERALL…
Christmas in Moldova is a time
for joy, family, and sharing
special moments with loved
ones. The blend of religious
observances and cultural
customs creates a unique and
festive atmosphere during the
holiday season.
