CHRISTOPHE WAS MADE THE COMMADER OF LE CAP AND DESSALINE TOOK CHARGE OF THE MULATTOES. THESE
TWO MEN WERE COMMANDERS OF TOUSSAINT.

MOTIVE FOR SWITCHING SIDES

• Toussaint wanted to rule the island. France did not challenge Toussaints power and this was the time for
him to really shine. He wanted a peaceful society. He managed to get the ex slaves back to work, drew a
plan for savings and development of Haiti, he lowered taxes and made treaties with foreign
governments.
• Overall he had to reconstruct Haiti
