 The difference between old and new Ac alternator

Windings of the AC alternator in old Windings of the AC alternator in 2022

supplied generators (full copper) supplied generators (aluminum)
Copper is considered for use in the windings of AC alternator however we have no idea why Mantrac
changed the winding to aluminum especially that sierra Leone has a very hot climate

Due to using aluminum instead of copper we are loosing the generator efficiency , the thermal
stability and the durability:

 Higher electrical conductivity: Copper has higher electrical conductivity compared to aluminum, which results in lower
losses and improved efficiency.

 Lower resistance: Copper has lower resistance compared to aluminum, which reduces power losses and increases the
efficiency of the alternator.

 Better thermal stability: Copper has better thermal stability compared to aluminum, which reduces stress on the windings
during temperature changes.

 Improved durability: Copper is more resistant to corrosion compared to aluminum, which increases the durability and
longevity of the alternator.
 The difference between old and new cabling

Very thin cables 2022 Gen.

Cables in Old Gen.

The size of the output power cables from the AC alternator in a 13 kVA generator is a crucial factor
in determining the performance and efficiency of the system. A cable size of 4 or 6 mm is small for a
13 kVA generator, and not sufficient to handle the current and power demands of the system:

The following are some of the effects of using the small cable in the recent shipment:

 Increased resistance: Smaller cable size results in higher resistance, which can lead to increased power losses and reduced
efficiency.

 Voltage drop: Smaller cable size can result in higher voltage drop across the cable, which can reduce the output voltage
and power of the generator.

 Overheating: Increased resistance and voltage drop can cause overheating in the cables, which can lead to damage and
degradation of the cables.

 Reduced lifespan: Overheating can reduce the lifespan of the cables, leading to frequent replacements and increased
maintenance costs.
