 My Philosophy of
Education
If there's one thing that I love the most and can probably
declare as my first love, it's learning. As a child, I read tons of books
and any form of written information. I could watch everything that
appeared on the television screen all day long. I enjoy talking to people
with diverse cultures and values, eagerly absorbing everything I read,
watch, and hear. Consequently, I have discovered how much I love to
share all that information with people around me in my own words as
if simplifying it. Every night, I would chat away about what I learned
about galaxies and dinosaurs to my brothers. Every breakfast before
going to school, I would share random facts about animals with my
mom. Once I got to school, I would do the same, talking and talking
about everything I had learned to my friends. I am so immersed in it,
and so excited to do it every day.
However, I can't do that all the time, can I? I can't bore people
around me with my discoveries every day. But at the same time, I can't
give up this fondness for learning and sharing, can I? It's something I
know I'm good at, and it's already a part of my life. I just can't let it go.
So, I tried to minimize it by shifting the chatter into writing and
posting on social media. It worked well until it was time for me to pick
a career and find a job as my long-term purpose in life. As I thought
about it, I put my love for learning as a top priority. I wanted a job that
would allow me to deeply learn and share my knowledge with others. I
wanted to encounter people with diverse perspectives and values. I

remember making a list of potential careers: Lawyer, Social Worker,
Journalist, TV/radio broadcaster, Flight Attendant, and much more.
Then, during one class discussion, I shared my thoughts about
my future career with my teacher. He suggested, "Bakit di
nalang teacher? Guro? Bagay sayo!" I was awed and had an epiphany.
If I became a teacher, I would continually learn and discover new
things. I could share my knowledge, values, experiences, and
perspectives with my students, and at the same time, I could learn from
them and their different backgrounds and perspectives.
That is how and why I am here - a fourth-year student majoring
in Social Studies at MSEUF-CI. I aspire to become an educator, to
share my knowledge, experience, and perspective, as I also aim to hear
my students' ideas, opinions, and experiences. I strongly believe that to
teach, I must learn and understand, and for me to continually
understand and learn, I must teach. This philosophy is the fundamental
and guiding principle of my journey in my chosen career. The past
three years have not been easy, as I have faced breakdowns and
burnout. However, I have persevered and am now thriving, just like a
sponge that fully absorbs everything and, if ready, will squeeze and
pour everything out thoroughly. The more a sponge can absorb
dishwashing, the more it can clean. As for me, I believe that the more I
absorb, the more I can give. The more that I learn, the more that I can
teach, and the more I teach the more I learn.
I would love to continue and talk about my aspiration and how
I funnily compared myself to a sponge but have you ever heard the
saying “actions speak louder than words”? To justify this paper to the
readers, kindly stay tuned for my journey as I willingly take my final
steps in this thorny (but hopefully worth it) path of education .
