ANARTHA NIVRITTI KRAMA

ONE STROKE SOLUTIOn
ALL ANARTHAS DESTROYED

BY THE MERCY OF

NAMA PRABHU
1. From sinful activities:
- 5 klesas
2. From pious activities:
- Addiction to results of pious acts
- Enjoyment of sattva-guna things
- Sometimes listed under the heading of the klesas
3. From offences:
- Generally nämäparadhas
- Seva-äparadhas ( only when deliberately done)
- To neglect angas of bhakti out of enthusiasm is not
an offence
4. From bhakti:
- Material wealth, worship, respect, position, fame
Namaparadhas
From the offences, the most important are nämäparadhas
and from namaparadhas the most vicious is:

1. Sadhu ninda – offence against the devotees of the Lord

that is done with animosity.

Remedy:
- Take shelter of that sadhu. Sadhu is any devotee, even if ill
behaved, not only pure devotee.
- Dust of his feet may not forgive you, therefore shelter at
his feet is necessary.
Some of the other offences:

2. Considering the demigods to be equal to Krishna

a)Two types of jivas:
- Covered
- Uncovered: - influenced by aisvarya

- uninfluenced by aisvarya
b) Lord Siva

4. Disrespect of the Vedas

How to nullify this offence?
-by praising the Vedas
- By praising those who practice and teach Vedas
Can anarthas arise even after
attaining the lotus feet of the Lord?
 Citraketu – His accidental maha-aparadha was
apparent, not real. He retained his prema, even
as Vrtrasura.

 Jaya and Vijaya – Their apparent offense was

caused by their prema; they prayed “Somehow
make us inimical to you, and enjoy the pleasure
of fighting. Diminishing your affection for your
devotees, please fulfill our prayer.”
Doubt: “How can there be any
remaining anarthas for one who chants
the Holy Name, e.g. Ajamila?”
 Answer: “The Holy Name, being unhappy with
the offenses made against it, does not manifest
it’s power in the offender.”
 “However, the yamadutas are powerless to
attack such persons.”
 “Even so, the lord of death Yama and any other
means of purification cannot free him from the
anartha. Only the devotee himself can, by
eliminating namaparadha’s reaction.”
Offenders lose the Mercy of the Holy
Name!
 The servant of the vastly wealthy & capable master
who becomes offensive, consequently is neglected.
(Moral: eradication of anartha’s effects is gradual).

 Q: “Can one who commits namaparadha become

averse to the Lord, to guru, and devotional service?”
Ans: “Yes! Example of loss of appetite during high
fever. Gradual return, with proper medicine.”
 “Similarly, continuing to chant even w/o taste, but
for purification, taste (Mercy) will gradually return.”
"In the beginning one must have a preliminary desire for self-
realization. This will bring one to the stage of trying to
associate with persons who are spiritually elevated. In the next
stage one becomes initiated by an elevated spiritual master,
and under his instruction the neophyte devotee begins the
process of devotional service. By execution of devotional
service under the guidance of the spiritual master, one
becomes free from all material attachment, attains steadiness
in self-realization, and acquires a taste for hearing about the
Absolute Personality of Godhead, Çré Kåñëa. This taste leads
one further forward to attachment for Kåñëa consciousness,
which is matured in bhäva, or the preliminary stage of
transcendental love of God. Real love for God is called prema,
the highest perfectional stage of life."
