FORGIVENESS

Forgiveness
-the action or process of forgiving or
being forgiven.
- In the Bible, the Greek word translated
“forgiveness” literally means “to let go”,
as when a person does not demand
payment for a debt.
Why Forgive?
WE HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN
I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and
I will not remember your sins.(Isaiah 43:25)

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred

us to the kingdom of his beloved son, in whom we have
redemption, the forgiveness of sins.(Colossians 1:13-14)
IT IS THE ESSENCE OF OUR FAITH
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of
you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the
Lord forgave you. (Collosians 3:13)

But if you do not forgive others their sins, your

Father will not forgive your sins.(Matthew 6:15)
So if you are offering your gift at the altar and
there remember that your brother has something
against you, leave your gift there before the altar
and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and
then come and offer your gift. (Matthew 5:23-24)
FORGIVENESS LEADS TO HEALING
If my people who are called by my name humble
themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from
their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will
forgive their sin and heal their land.(2 Chronicles 7:14)

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for

one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a
righteous person has great power as it is working. (James
5:16)
Who to forgive?
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your
neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your
enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you
may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes
his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on
the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love
you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax
collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers,
what more are you doing than others? Do not even the
Gentiles do the same? (Matthew 5:43-48)
How to forgive?
