What are food chains?
A food chain is a network of organisms being eaten by one another
by creating a chain and transferring nutrients and energy (specifically
10%).
In a food chain, each organism occupies a different trophic level,
defined by how many energy transfers separate it from the basic input
of the chain.
The four levels in this food chain are primary consumers, secondary
consumers, tertiary consumers, and finally decomposers or
phytoremediators.
The levels of food chain
There are many levels in food chains which help simplify the process
Primary consumers- They are the very first type of consumer which
feed on the producer
Secondary consumers- These type of consumers feed on the primary
consumer
Tertiary consumer- They are the ones who eat secondary consumers
Decomposers- This is an organism that breaks down dead organic
material in a food chain.
Apex- This is a predator that exists at the very top of the food chain
