Enzymes properties

1. Enzyme catalyzes specific reaction/range of reactions

2. They show maximum activity at optimum conditions
mostly between 35oC – 40oC and pH
3. Enzymes are colloidal in nature
4. Enzymes get inactivated by application of heat,
ultraviolet light and X-rays.
5. Enzymes are soluble in water or dilute salt solutions.
Collagenase
It is an enzyme obtained from fermentation of
bacteria Clostridium histolyticum
It digest native and denatured collagen

Uses of collagenase
Used in debridement of dermal ulcers, burns and
other necrotic lesions
Sutilains
It is proteolytic enzyme obtained from Bacillus
subtilis

Uses
Used fro burns and wound debridement
Muramidase
It is an enzyme found in tears, lungs, serum
leucocytes and different tissues and secretions of
animals

Uses
Hydrolysises mucopolysacharides and trsnforms
insoluble polysaccharides of the cell wall to soluble
mucopeptides
Used intravenously to treat bacterial or viral
infections
Fibrinolysin
It also called plasmin
It is a proteolytic enzyme obtained from activation of
human plasminogen by highly purified streptokinase
It is obtaine from bovine pancreases (Bos taurus )
and some bacterial

Uses
Used in treatment of thrombotic disorders due to its
fibrinolytic nature
Thyroid hormone
Thyroid hormone is a mixture of two hormones
Thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3)
It is naturally obtained from pig Sus scrofa
Currently the synthetic form is available

Uses
Used in treatment of hypothyroidism (giotre )
Vidarabine and Cytarabine
These compounds were obtained as a modification of
compounds isolated from Marine sponges Cyptotethya
crypta

Uses
Antiviral and anticancer
Zidovudine
