LEARNING GOAL

This lesson aims to help the students


recognize, identify causes and manage
stress.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After this lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Define “stress” and “stress management”;


2. Identify the signs of stress;
3. Enumerate the causes of stress;
4. Cite the effects of stress to our body;
5. Identify strategies in coping with stress;
6. Recognize the Stress Management Strategy.
I. DEFINITION OF TERMS
Stress - is a response produced by the body when
a person is subjected to different types of
demand, whether physical, mental, or emotional.

Stress management - is a wide spectrum of


techniques and psychotherapies aimed at
controlling a person's level of stress, especially
chronic stress, usually for the purpose of
improving everyday functioning.
II. SIGNS OF STRESS:

– Back Pain
– Fatigue
– Aches and Pains
• Mental
– Difficulty Concentrating
– Increased Errors
– Poor Decision Making
III. What Causes Us Stress?

1. Human Indecency and Pain


- refers to the putting aside of personal
feelings and dealings with criminals and
their victims which is very challenging.

2. Internal and Personal Stressors


- Police officers often work different shifts,
sometimes on a daily rotation.

- working with the different agencies
within the CJS can cause stress.

4. Safety - police work is a dangerous job.

5. Administrative Stressors
- dealing with admin issues, paper
work and internal job can cause stress.

closely at your habits, attitude, and excuses:

1. Do you explain away stress as temporary (“I


just have a million things going on right now”) even
though you can’t remember the last time you took
a breather?

an easy escape from stress, but the relief is
only temporary
