INTRODUCTION OF CERAMIC MATERIAL
 Ceramic material is an inorganic, metallic oxide, nitride, or carbide material. Some elements, such as carbon
or silicon, may be considered ceramics. Ceramic materials are brittle, hard, strong in compression, and weak in
shearing and tension.
 PROPERTIES:
1. Harder and more brittle than metals
2. Wear-resistant
3. Refractory
4. Good thermal and electrical insulators
5. Nonmagnetic
6. Oxidation-resistant
7. Chemically stable
Ceramic Refractory Bricks

 Refractory bricks contain around 25 to 30% alumina and 60 to 70% of silica. They also contain
oxides of magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Refractory bricks find application in the
construction of kilns, furnaces, etc. They can withstand temperatures up to 2100 degrees
Celsius.
 Price: 24.3 INR PER PIECE
 Refractory materials are useful for the following functions:
1. Serving as a powerful thermal barrier between the wall of a containing vessel and a hot
medium
2. Combatting physical stresses
3. Preventing erosion of vessel walls
4. Protecting against corrosion
5. Providing thermal insulation.
 SIZE:9 In. X 4 In. X 3 In.
PROPERTIES
1. The water absorption of a refractory brick is 5
to 10%.
2. They have a high fusion point.
3. Refractory bricks resist high temperatures.
4. They have outstanding compressive strength.
5. The weight of fire bricks is 150 lbs per cubic ft.
6. The size of a refractory brick is 9×4.5×2.5
inches or 9×2.7×2.25 inches.
7. Refractory bricks also have unmatched
chemical resistance
8. They also do not react with the gases of the
furnace.
