Introduction and pre-test

IELTS is the high-stakes English test for study,
migration or work.

There are two types of the IELTS test:


• Academic
• General Training

Speak as much English as you can. 01
Prepare yourself for the exam by knowing what it is
involved. 02
You need to sound natural and not as if you have
learnt the answer; be spontaneous and relevant. 03
Use a wide range of vocabulary. People generally
use less when they speak. Practice to activate what
you know.

PRE-TEST
PART 1

Are you a student or do you work?


What do you study? What’s your job?
What do you like about this subject/job?
Is there anything you find difficult about it?

What job would you like to have ten years from now?
How useful will English be for your future?
How much travelling do you hope to do in the future?
How do you think your life will change in the future?
PART 2

You will have to talk about the topic for one to two minutes. You
have one minute to think about what you are going to say. You can
make some notes to help you if you wish.

Describe a book that you enjoyed reading because you had to think
a lot.
You should say:
● what this book was
● why you decided to read it
● what reading this book made you think about
and explain why you enjoyed reading this book.
PART 3

Children and reading:


What are the most popular types of children’s books in your
country?
What are the benefits of parents reading books to their children?
Should parents always let children choose the book they read?

Electronic books:
How popular are electronic books are in your country?
What are the advantages of reading electronic books (compared to
printed books)
Will electronic books ever completely replace printed books in the
future?
