Parenthood Ethics
Parenthood is a possession of
moral parental rights and
responsibilities.

These may differ in content from

legal rights and responsibilities—
we might think that parents are
morally ought to do more than they
are legally required to do.
 Responsibilities of parenthood.

These includes but not limited:

1. to protect your child from harm.
2. to provide your child with food, clothing
and a place to live.
3. to financially support your child.
4. to provide safety, supervision and
control.
5. to provide medical care.
6. to provide an education.
Stages of parenthood:
Stage 1. Image-making,
Stage 2. Nurturing,
Stage 3. Authority,
Stage 4. Interpretive,
Stage 5. Interdependent.
Why Parenthood so important?
1. Sense of family – Children often help
create a new sense of family connection
among family members.
2. Personal growth – Parenthood
provides the opportunity to guide, teach
and pass on values to the next
generation.
3. Closeness to parents – Having a child
may help new parents understand their
parents' love and perspectives.
