AIM : Study of homologous and analogous organs in animals.

PRINCIPLE:

Homologous organs- organs with similar in structure but different in functions are called
homologous organs.

Analogous organs – organs which have dissimilar in structure but perform same functions are
called analogous organs.

Procedure
1. Take the specimens/models/charts and observe them carefully.
2. Record the structure and function of each specimen.
3. Draw their neat and labelled diagrams.

Observations

Homologous Organs in Animals

Wings of bat, and forelimb of man, cheetah, whale. All have the same bone structures.like
humerus, radius, ulna, carpals, metacarpals and phalanges, but perform different functions.
E.g. In man- grasping, in cheetah- running, in whale- for swimming, in bat- for running.

Analogous Organs in Animals

(i) Wings of insect, wings of bat and wings of bird .
