COMMON EXCUSES FOR
BEING SEDENTARY
1. I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH TIME

If you feel as though you have no time for physical

activity in your day-to-day life, try to:
• Keep a diary of your daily activities for a week.
• Try to break up your exercise session
• Involve your family
• Take a brisk 15 minutes walk at lunchtime
• Try to incorporate physical activity into your daily life
2. EXERCISE IS BORING

Sometimes lack of interest is the problem rather

than lack of time. If you think exercise is boring, try to:
• Exercise with a friend, join a local walking group or
take up a team sport.
• Think back to physical activities you enjoyed a child
• Change the way you think about physical activity
• Consider using exercise equipment at home
3. I DON’T KNOW HOW TO BE ACTIVE

There are lots of people ready to help you when you’re

ready to get moving. Suggestions include:
• See your doctor for suggestions and support when
embarking on a physical activity program.
• Visit your local gym or sports center.
• Pick something that really interests you. Ask any of your
physically active friends if you can come along during their
next exercise session.
• Learn about a variety of opportunities for physical activity
in your area.
