Character Analysis of 12
angry man
Juror No. 2

He is a meek. It can be seen from the stage direction “No.2 looks at him
nervously, nods and goes over to water cooler”(3). He is hesitant man who finds
it difficult to maintain any opinion. It can be seen from this stage business and
dialogue “(nervously laughing). Well… I guess… they’re entitled”(3), (hesitantly)
Anybody…want a cough…drop”(16). The blank in this dialogue shows that there is
a pause when he talks. He easily swayed and usually adopts the opinion of the
last person to whom he has spoken. It can be seen from this diaologue: No.8:
right and no. 2 says right, No. 8 says You’ve heard of it No.2 says Well, sure, I’ve
heard of it(6).
Juror No.4

He seems to be a man of wealth and position. It can be seen from this dialogue “I
think we ought to be able to behave like a gentlemen”(5). He is a practiced
speaker by suggesting “If we’re going to discuss this case, let’s discuss the fact”.
And it was agreed by the foreman and all the jurors. From that dialogue, it can
be argued that his only concern is with the facts. When all the facts was
revealed, the last one is about the woman who is wearing a glasses, he is
convinced that there is a reasonable doubt. He seems to feel a little bit above
the rest of the jurors and is appalled at the behavior of the others. It can be seen
from his response to No. 10 who talk too much about the kids “If you open your
mouth again, I’m going to split your skull” (No one moves or speaks. No. 10 looks
at him, then looks down the table).
Juror no.5

 He is a naïve person. It can be seen from this dialogue “I don’t know. It just
never occurred to me”. He is a sensitive person. It can be argued when he
was so offended by the talk of juror no. 4 and 10 about slums. But he can
express more because he finds it difficult to speak up when his elders have
the floor so “ he catches himself and seeing everyone looking at him, sits
down, fists clenched”(8).
Juror No. 11

 He is a refugees from Europe who has come to this country in 1941. he speaks
with accent based on this stage business in a dioalogue “(with accent). If you
gentleman don’t mind, I’m going to close te window”. From this dialogue, it
can be seen that he is a humble person. He will honestly seek justice
because he has suffered through so much injustice. “he wanted to have the
right to disagree” Therefore he “can understand (no. 5’s) sensitivity” for
being offended when No. 4 talk about slums.
