Pediatrics

Student: MD.Luu Lam Thang Tai

Supervisor: MD.PhD.Phan Tien Loi
Aims:

1. To clarify the definition of arthritis and to distinguish arthritis from

other musculoskeletal pain causes
2. To list causes of arthritis
3. To provide a brief clinical background of arthritis causes
Definition

Arthritis is derived from the Greek term “disease of the joints.” It is

defined as an acute or chronic joint inflammation that often co-exists
with pain and structural damage. Arthritis is not synonymous with
arthralgia, which refers to pain localized to a joint, regardless of the
origin of the pain (which may or may not be due to joint inflammation)
Arthritis in children is called childhood arthritis or juvenile arthritis
Definition
Musculoskeletal pain causes Clinical manifestations
Arthritis (also for joint pain) is typically worse when the joint is moved but
usually is present even when the joint is not being
moved
Muscle pain localized, regional or widespread pain
Tendon/ligament pain is often described as "sharp" and is worse when
the affected tendon or ligament is stretched or
moved and is usually relieved by rest
Bone related pain is usually deep, penetrating, or dull. It commonly
results from injury, or less common, bone infection
(osteomyelitis), hormone disorders, and tumors
Approach in clinical practice

4. How about it’s distribution ?
5. How about it’s pattern (Progressive additive type, migratory pattern
type, …) ?
6. How about other extra-articular signs and symtomps ?
