“Remote-controlled precision agriculture: Integration of pesticide

applicator and power tiller for efficient eggplant farm
management”
A pioneering advancement lies in the remote-controlled machine designed for spraying
pesticides and tilling soil, which transforms conventional farming practices. By
minimizing manual labor, this innovation aims to enhance crop health, increase
productivity, and foster sustainability in eggplant cultivation.

Context of the Study
Main Problem: The client faces a major issue with pests damaging their eggplant crops, which can harm yields and income.
Additionally, soil compaction reduces air, water, and nutrient access for the plants, stunting their growth and nutrient
absorption.

Severity of the Problem: Eggplant production in the Philippines faces severe losses from pests, diseases, and harsh
environmental conditions, with the Eggplant Fruit and Shoot Borer (FSB) being the most damaging insect pest. FSB can lead
to yield reductions ranging from 51-73% by damaging fruits with entry/exit holes and larval tunnels, making them less
marketable. Compacted soils hinder water, gas, and root movement, leading to waterlogging and limited plant growth.

Problem in the Locale: The researcher interviewed a local client, the Sison family, who runs a vegetable farm in San
Antonio Quezon. The client reported that their eggplant crops are highly susceptible to pests, with 100% infestation if
pesticides aren't used. This infestation damages plants, lowers yields, and may make the crops unfit for sale or consumption.
Additionally, the client mentioned that insufficient tilling causes soil compaction, reducing porosity and hindering root access
to nutrients and water.

Context of the Study
Solution: Creating a remote-controlled machine for applying pesticides and tilling soil addresses common
challenges faced by farmers. This device administers pesticides to eggplant crops and tills soil at optimal times,
all controlled remotely. It offers an efficient solution to manage crops, improving health and productivity.

Rationale: This project aims to innovate agriculture by addressing challenges like pest and soil management,
particularly in eggplant cultivation. It focuses on creating a customizable pesticide spraying and tilling system
for eggplant farms to enhance crop growth. The machine aims to improve soil aeration and nutrient access while
increasing efficiency and safety for farmers by reducing chemical exposure.

Objectives
Main Objective: To investigate the implementation and impact of remote-controlled technology in
pesticide applicators and power tiller machines for enhancing agricultural efficiency, productivity, and
sustainability

Specific Objectives: The goal is to create a machine that accurately applies pesticides to eggplant crops
and tills compacted soil. This involves developing a power tilling system, a remote control for adjusting
pesticide spraying and tilling, and using a water pump to move pesticides. Additionally, solar panels will
be utilized to power the machine, promoting sustainability. This project aims to enhance agricultural
productivity and efficiency while maintaining crop health and quality.

Methods
Design: The remote-controlled pesticide spraying machine integrates software and hardware for
efficient spraying, optimized pesticide use, and real-time monitoring. It includes user-friendly software
for adjusting spraying parameters and hardware components like a motorized sprayer, water pump,
pesticide storage, and power tiller. The machine features a stable chassis with wheels, solar panels for
power generation, and a battery for continuous operation, reducing dependence on external power.

- ESTIMATED TOTAL COST: P61,000.00

Methods
Develop: The process begins with defining requirements and conducting thorough research on existing
agricultural systems. Conceptualization leads to detailed design, followed by CAD modeling and system
integration. Testing through simulation precedes prototyping, with material selection and cost estimation
considered. Documentation includes assembly instructions. Prototyping involves iterative refinement,
leading to a final blueprint for large-scale manufacturing.

Implement: The implementation of "Remote-Controlled Precision Agriculture" involves assembling

physical components according to the blueprint. Components are connected to the control system and
power source, ensuring secure connections. Thorough testing is done before deployment in eggplant
farms.

Methods
Evaluate: A thorough evaluation plan will assess effectiveness by conducting
randomized trials across different farm sections, comparing outcomes like crop health
and yield with and without the machine. Adequate sample size and continuous
monitoring will ensure reliable results. Comparing data with traditional methods will
help optimize crop protection and yield for the client.
