Sun Path diagram
Sun path diagrams can tell you a lot
about how the sun will impact your site
and building throughout the year.
Stereographic sun path diagrams can
be used to read the solar azimuth and
altitude for a given location.
Sun path diagrams work
To keep it simple, the diagram
shows your site (where your
building will be) and the
surrounding buildings and the
way in which the sun moves
across this area. For example, if
your building is North facing, you
can design according to the
different lights that it will get.
Use of sun path

The sun path diagram is often very useful

in determining the period of the year and hours of day
when shading will take place at a particular location.

Important of Sun Analysis in Architecture

They can help establish the position of the sun

relative to a site and can be used to determine the
effect of shadows cast by buildings, trees and
landforms on and around the site.
The analysis considers shading by adjacent objects
such as vegetation and surrounding buildings.
Although not intended for sizing photovoltaic
panels, solar analysis can help identify locations for
maximizing solar gain by considering shading
effects and seasonal variations in solar radiation.
