OPPRESSION?

This is the combination of prejudice and

institutional power that creates a system that
regularly and severely discriminates against some
groups and benefits other groups.

OPPRESSION

•In George Orwell’s “Animal Farm,” the theme

of oppression is explored through the allegorical
portrayal of a group of farm animals who
overthrew their human owner and establish their
own society based on the principles of equality
and freedom. However, as the story unfolds, it
becomes clear that the new society is not
immune to the same types of oppression that
existed in the old rigme.

In Animal Farm, two examples of oppression are when the

pigs, led by Napoleon, take all the milk and apples for
themselves, while the other animals receive less food.
Another example is when the pigs change the commandments
of the farm to benefit themselves, such as when they modify
”All animals are equal” to “ All animals are equal, but some
are more equal than others.

The pigs treated everyone awfully, except the dogs

Napoleon had raised, as his own private guards. They
treated themselves as royalty in comparison to the other
animals. The pigs were able to relax while all other
animals had to work. The pigs, especially Napoleon,
had the most control over the farm and had absolute
power over the other animals. Much like the soviet
intelligence from the Russian Revolution, the pigs

Firstly, the pigs, who represent the ruling class, gradually acquire more
privileges and power compared to the other animals. They start by
taking the milk and apples for themselves, claiming it is necessary for
their intelligence. Secondly, the pigs also change the commandments
of the farm to further solidify their superiority. This alteration of the
commandments reveals the hypocrisy and manipulation of the ruling
class, as they create a hierarchy that places them above the other
animals.
