THE ORGANIZATION

BEST PRACTICE
ORGANIZATION
• Organizations that set benchmarks or serve as examples
of how to do things effectively and efficiently are called
"best-practice" organizations.
• The techniques they use -- the "best practices" -- have
shown superior results and have applications
throughout an industry or organization.
• A best-practice organization is efficient at integrating its
organizational structure with a solid mission and vision
statement and integrating these into a holistic message
about the organization that serves as the company's
"brand."

INTEGRATING
COMMUNICATION
• The mission, vision, statement of values and
organization design all work together to form an
impression of the company in the eyes of its employees
and customers.
• The core elements of these organizational building
blocks should be represented in all business
communications.
• Organizations that are recognized as best-practice
organizations constantly reiterate their main themes in
their marketing materials, logo design, customer service
messages and workplace ethos.

Organizations received recognition
for having vision, mission, and values
statements that are strong and
inspirational.

THE DEFINITION OF VISION
• Vision is where an organisation wants to go: it
describes the targeted successful state for an
organisation. An organisational vision should be
challenging and inspirational to its employees and
stakeholders. A vision statement usually presents an
ideal in the longer rather than in the shorter term.
• A vision statement articulates the overreaching,
long-term goals of the enterprise. It is a look beyond
the present to see what the future could be.

7 CHARACTERISTICS OF A
VISION STATEMENT

accomplishment the organization would like to achieve.
2. Articulates the overreaching, long-term goals of the
enterprise.
3. Looks beyond the present to see what the future could
be.
4. Asserts what the organization can be at its best.
5. Presents a target that beckons.

THE DEFINITION OF MISSION
• Mission is what an organisation is here to deliver. It
is the reason for its existence and supports the
attainment of the vision. The mission is usually
measured by how well an organisation is achieving
its objectives and goals.
• A mission specifies how the organization will get
there. A well formulated mission outlines the who,
what, and why.

A good mission statement spells
out:
• What business(es) are you in
• What services/products do you offer
• What is your market
• What differentiates your organization from
competition
• What are your business key financial objectives
• What are your culture and human resources
requirements to achieve your objectives

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A
VISION AND A MISSION STATEMENT
• A vision statement is short. Often one line or so. A mission
statement might be half a page to a page.
• A vision statement generally contains a superordinate
goal. Something big to strive for. A mission statement tells
how you’ll get there.
• A mission statement often includes elements like: nature
and direction of the business; your differentiator; your
market; key financial objectives; your culture.
• If a vision statement is where you want to get, the mission
is the bridge between where you are now and your vision

Importance of Vision and Mission
Statements
• A vision and mission can unleash boundless
constructive tension.
• Effective vision and mission statements create a
sense of urgency and give people something they
can set their sights on.
• Creating an organizational vision and mission can
generate the unity that leads to world class
performance.

THE DEFINITION OF VALUES
• Values are the guiding principles of the
organisation. It gives employees a moral compass, a
set of ideals, and a standard of behaviour expected
in the organisation. Some organisations use a code
of conduct or ethics to put these values into
practice.
• Values express the ethics that must guide the
behavior of the organization and its team members
