DATA

ORGANIZATION
Organize Qualitative and Quantitative Data from Actual Observations. (SSP_RS7-IPS-II-i-j-11)
What Is Data Organization?

 Organization of data means classification, tabulation, graphical presentation and

diagrammatic presentation of data. The methods that we use to organize data include
classification, tabulation, graphical presentation and diagrammatic presentation.
 Classification of data refers to categorization of data. It includes the summary of the
frequency of individual scores or ranges of scores for a variable. Data is grouped on the
basis of their similarities. The objectives of classification of data are to present it in a
condensed form, to explain its affinities and diversities. Classification of data may be done
on the basis of qualitative and quantitative aspects.
METHODS OF
ORGANIZING
DATA
GRAPH

A graph is a pictorial representation of data in an

organized manner. Graphs are usually formed from
various data points, which represent the relationship
between two or more things.
Bar Chart/Graph

A bar chart is a graph represented by spaced

rectangular bars that describe the data points in a set
of data. It is usually used to plot discrete and
categorical data.
Bar Chart/Graph

Example: Nicest Fruit

A survey of 145 people asked
them "Which is the nicest fruit?“
Fruit: Apple Orange Banana Kiwifruit
Blueberry Grapes
People: 35 30 10 25 40

Bar Graphs can also be

Horizontal, like this:
Steps to draw a bar graph

1. To draw a bar graph, you to start with your frequency table.

2. From the frequency table, decide on the range and scale of the frequency data axis
(vertical axis) and the grouped data axis (horizontal axis)
3. Draw the vertical and horizontal axes and label them.
4. Write the graph title at the top.
5. Mark the data on the graph for each data group and draw the bar.

The graph has a title and both

axes are labeled.

Upon looking the graph, we can

generalize quickly that the
favorite fruit is grapes.
Pie Chart

A pie chart is a circular graph used to

illustrate numerical proportions in a
dataset. This graph is usually divided into
various sectors, where each sector
represents the proportion of a particular
numerical element in the set.

Line Graph

 is represented by a group of
data points joined together by a
straight line. Each of these data
points describes the relationship
between the horizontal and the
vertical axis on the graph

Pictogram Graph/Chart

uses pictures or icons to visualize a small dataset of

discrete data. In a pictogram, the icon represents a
predefined unit and describes the frequency of the
variables in the dataset.
Example
Apples Sold
Here is a pictograph of how many apples were sold at the local shop over
4 months:

 In January 10 apples were sold

  In February 40 apples were sold
  In March 25 apples were sold
  In April 20 apples were sold
Note that each picture of an apple
means 10 apples (and the half-apple
picture means 5 apples).
Chart

A chart is a graphical representation for data

visualization, in which "the data is represented by
symbols, such as bars in a bar chart, lines in a
linechart, or slices in a pie chart". A chart can
represent tabular numeric data, functions or some
kinds of quality structure and provides different info.
Graph vs. Chart

A graph is a mathematical diagram that depicts the relationship

between two or more sets of numerical data over a period of time.
Basic data is mainly 2 dimensional with a focus on raw data
represented through lines, curves, etc.
Charts, on the other hand, is a representation of datasets with the
intent of making the user understand the information in a better
manner. Graphs are a good example of charts used for data
visualization.
Table

 A data table is one type of graphic organizer used frequently in science.

It is used especially during laboratory experiments when qualitative
and/or quantitative data are collected. Data tables are not randomly
constructed; they have at least two columns or rows and specific data
entered into each column and/or row. In order to design a data table,
you must know what the independent and dependent variables are.
